Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is LGBTQ/Pride part two specifically about Brighton Pride which happened last weekend.

Brighton and Hove Pride as been a yearly event held in Brighton and Hove, having been organised the past few years by Community Interest Company (CiC) who promote equality, diversity and advance education as well as eliminate discrimination against the LBGTQ community. The event is usually held in the first week of August and attracts an estimated 450,000 people to the city and an estimated £20.5 million to the cities economy.

Brighton and Hove Pride has been an event since October 1972 when the Sussex Gay Liberation Front (SGLF) gave a gay demonstration and gave a full march in July 1973. after a few years without one Pride returned in 1991 with the Brighton Area Action (BAA) against section 28 this brought hundreds to the street and the contemporary pride started in 1992. Since 1996 the park festival was added and held at Preston Park. Since 2013 its included an Arts and Film festival and a Pride Dog show.

In 2002 the trans community was added to the pride making it a completely LGBT event and in 2004 Brighton and Hove Pride became a charity in an attempt to help develop the event and advance public awareness by raising awareness of issues affecting LGBT people. As well as making grants and donations to other charitable and voluntary organisations n the area. In 2011 organisers added a controversial (at the time) entry fee the company was in financial ruin with £200.000 in debt. Since 2013 Pride has been under new management and has since raised £700.000 for Local LGBT groups. The pride event now includes not only the parade and the Park Festival at Preston Park but the Pride village Party in Kemp Town an arts and film festival, a pride dog show and several club parties around the city. The main stage headliners for Pride Festival this year were Jessie J and Kylie Minogue.

St Johns Ambulance has always provided Brighton pride with Medical Provision. With Pride in its current format volunteers from across the UK are often needed to provide skills, equipment and knowledge to look after those requiring medical aid at the event and often support the local ambulance service by responding to 999 calls on foot due to road closures during the event. Several other private medical providers operate during the event. West street is covered by space safe and St James Street is covered by a provider who works specifically in St James Street alone.

I don't have much of an opinion form 2017's Brighton pride since we'd just moved in to Brighton not even a month before hand and I'd spent one of the days working completely missing a good chunk of the party. The next day we had a friend visit so I'd spent the day entertaining. For pride 2018 I had the ability to enjoy the pride parade and take several pictures of the event. My opinion of this years pride which happened last weekend was

It had a different flavour this year since the pride route changed from going down North street (which is both the High street of Brighton and the main thorough faire between Brighton and hove) to going down North road instead which is two roads inwards towards Preston Park. It was particularly useful because my road is attached to North road so I didn't have to go far to enjoy myself. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the music.....but I ended up taking a seat in The Pottery Place Cafe (http://www.paintingpotterycafe.co.uk/ ) for the last five to ten minutes of the parade due to it being rather warm and the fact I was having back cramps due to the Crimson wave.
