Random
blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were
we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's
blog is on The Drag Queen (and winner of S6 of Rupaul's Drag race)
Bianca Del Rio.
Roy
Haylock is the man behind Bianca Del Rio and is not only an American
Drag Queen, Comedian and Actor but also a Costume designer who is
best known for winning S6 of Rupaul's Drag Race. Haylock was born on
June 27th 1975 and he grew up in Louisiana with his four
siblings and his parents, he got into acting and designing costumes
for plays at West Jefferson high school. After High school and
spending nine months in NYC Haylock returned to Louisiana and started
work as a costume designer winning the Big Easy Entertainment award
for best costume design for Snow Queen at 17 in 1993. Haylock went on
to be nominated another 13 times in the Big Easy Entertainment awards
for costume design winning 6 of them. Haylock has also made costumes
for the New Orleans Opera.
During the
Late 90's Haylock started performing as Bianca Del Rio, going on to
garner attention to receive work in local nightclubs and thanks to
his drag persona Haylock won the New Orleans Best Gay Entertainer for
three years. Things started to change and after Hurricane Katrina
Haylock moved to NYC where he went onto perform in the first regional
production of RENT (after its initial Broadway closing). Haylock went
onto being featured in the web series of Queens of Drag: NYC by
gay.com 2010, fellow drag queens Dallas DuBois, Hedda Lettuice, Lady
Bunny, Mimi Imfurst, Peppermint and Sherry Vine also starred in the
show.
In 2013
Logo announced Bianca as one of the 14 drag queens who would be
competing in Rupaul's Drag race. Haylock became a fan favourite and
rose to win the show over second and third runner ups Courtney Act
and Adore Delano. Later in 2013 Haylock was pronounced as the lead in
the independent film Hurricane Bianca, a squeal Hurricane Bianca: To
Russia with hate was released in 2018. Since starring in Drag Race.
Bianca Del Rio has gone on to write and tour four shows including the
Rolodex of Hate (2014), Not today Satan (2015-2016), Blame it on
Bianca Del Rio (2017-2018) And Bianca Del Rio's most recent tour
“It's Jester Joke” has been going strong across the world and as
such passed through the town I live in.
Wendy Ho
was the support act. Now Wendy was rather funny and her set was
particularly good, rather fluid in delivery, pretty sound and got
genuine laughs from the crowd, However Wendy Ho had songs in her set
and whilst I'm all for doing what you do best and what have you I
found the singing a bit meh. Don't get me wrong the songs she sang
were her own and it was very good for her set but I'm more of a
comedy set person and as such music and comedy don't mix unless its
propelling a story along. I will however (Since I don't often listen
to her set's cause she's not my radar often)give Wendy Ho 7/10 for
her set.
Bianca's
set was as usual pretty great, her delivery was fluid and sound, a
lot of her jokes fit together and got many laughs from both myself
and the other guests. However there were a few jokes I didn't quite
get, they kinda just went over my head although others found them
funny. I will be giving Bianca's set 8/10.
Out of
this all I have to say about the Brighton Centre is.....Their chairs
are terrible on the Butt-cheeks.
