Hey there
Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend
an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky
and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Since
It's Blog-a-ween week and the season of Halloween Today's blog is on
Paranormal TV shows.
Paranormal
shows are great ways to easily get scared especially around Halloween
and are great to watch as a pass time. The earliest TV show dedicated
to the Paranormal was ONE STEP BEYOND on the ABC network and ran from
1959 to 1961 and over the years several shows followed in its
footsteps such as IN SEARCH OF (1976), GHOSTWATCH (1992) which
created controversy due to the fact it was fiction and mistaken as
real and FEAR (2000). the four TV shows I'm gonna blog about today
are Most Haunted, Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures and Haunted Towns.
MOST
HAUNTED.
Most
Haunted is
a British paranormal
reality
television series.
It was first shown on Living
TV between
May 2002 and July 2010. A new online edition aired on 31 October 2013
with Really
taking
over broadcast from August 2014. Presented by Yvette
Fielding,
the programme investigates purported paranormal
activity
in a range of locations, mainly within the United Kingdom and the
Republic
of Ireland.
The series is produced by Antix
Productions.
After
4 years of being off-air, Fielding and Karl
Beattie,
the producer of the programme, confirmed that following a successful
online episode, Most Haunted would be returning to screens in August
2014, aired by Really. In July 2019 Karl announced that Really will
no longer be broadcasting any new episodes of Most Haunted and the
show will be unavailable on air until a new home channel is agreed.
Over
275 episodes of the programme have been broadcast to date, with the
24th series airing in early 2019.
- Most Haunted wiki
Most Haunted first
released on May 25th 2002 and ran until July 21st
2010 on Living then with the revival ran from August 21st
2014 on Really. Related shows are Most Haunted Live! And Ghost
Hunting With...
I came across Most Haunted with the pilot episode when I was twelve
years old. I followed the first 15 series religiously along with the
Lives until they came off air at series 15. I struggled to follow the
show with the revival having moved onto other Paranormal shows. There
have been some controversies with some of the crew (mainly mediums).
I've not really kept up with the later eight series although I have
watched a couple of episodes but since the show has gone through a
few changes since its creation. The show's not really the same. I
recommend this show to those who kinda want an easy way into watching
paranormal shows since it does have a decent/easy set up. I give it a
7/10 rating.
GHOST
HUNTERS: Taps.
Jason
Hawes and
Grant
Wilson,
along with other team members who belong to the group they founded,
The
Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS),
investigate locations of interest by using various electronic
equipment, which they believe is capable of detecting paranormal
activity.
When
investigating a location, TAPS team members first visit and survey
the property with its owners, who describe their experiences at the
site. Next, the team sets up electronic equipment in the apparent
paranormal hotspots. The TAPS team then spends several hours
taking electromagnetic
field and
temperature readings, recording audio for EVPs,
and filming with digital video cameras. Many times, they will even
try to verbally coax the ghosts into responding, while recording.
Afterwards, the team spends several days analysing all of the data
for evidence of possible paranormal activity.
A
few days after reviewing the information, Hawes and Wilson discuss
their findings with the location site owners, offer suggestions for
dealing with any apparent activity, and answer any questions the
owners may have.
The
TAPS members state that they do not believe that every phenomenon
captured is evidence of the paranormal and sometimes provide
reasonable explanations such as cold
spots which
may be draughty windows, strange noises that may be a thumping branch
or vermin in the walls, moving objects which may have been
accidentally bumped or tugged, or phantom lights which can be
reflections of light from a passing vehicle.
Since
the series began airing, TAPS has recorded thousands of hours of
audio and video data. Most investigations, according to TAPS, turn up
cold with very little, if any, paranormal activity occurring;
however, the ghost hunters claim to have several decent recordings of
moving
objects,
mysterious lights,
strange mists, and shadowy
figures that
manifest before the camera and are highlighted at the end of the
show.
Syfy
categorizes
the program as a docu-soap.
In addition to the investigative aspect, the show has also presented
personal conflicts and relationships among members of the TAPS team.
Portions of some episodes portray Hawes and Wilson involved with
their plumbing job or personal lives, but this varies by episode and
is not always included. As the series progressed, however, the
"behind-the-scenes" and "docu-soap" aspects have
been reduced, and the fifth season has so far focused primarily on
the investigations, with virtually none of the docu-soap material
that characterized earlier episodes.
- Ghost
Hunters Wiki.
Ghost
Hunters was released on TV on the SYFI channel (series 1-11) on
October 6th 2004 and ran until October 26th
2016. as of the posting of this blog Series 12 was announced to be
returning thanks to the A&E network and premiered on August 21st
2019.
I came
across the Taps team and their TV show Ghost Hunters during my late
teens and early twenties. I watched the show for three to four
seasons before loosing interest in the show. Not long after this the
show gained a few controversies about supposedly faking evidence.
When I
stumbled across Taps I had been looking for something different to
what i'd been watching then (which was Most Haunted). The show was ok
to watch and semi-decent in its presentation despite the supposed
controversy. I recommend the show as an alternative to watching other
shows and I give the show a 5/10.
GHOST
ADVENTURES.
Ghost
Adventures began as an independent
film,
produced in a documentary
style.
It was filmed in 2004 and produced by 4Reel Productions in 2006. The
Syfy
Channel
premiered 4Reel's Ghost Adventures on July 25, 2007. The documentary
centred on the trio's investigation of alleged paranormal
activity in
and around Virginia
City, Nevada.
The crew returned there during the series' fifth season.
The
film also featured the Goldfield
Hotel in
Goldfield,
Nevada,
to which the crew later returned during the series' fourth and
seventh seasons and caught more substantial evidence. The documentary
was released on DVD
by
Echo
Bridge Home Entertainment on
October 5, 2010.
*Zak
Bagans,
Nick
Groff (seasons
1–10), Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley, and Jay Wasley investigate
reportedly
haunted locations,
hoping to collect visual or auditory evidence of paranormal
activity.
Each episode begins with the crew touring the investigation site with
its owners or caretakers. These introductions typically include
Bagans's voice-overs of the site's history as well as interviews with
people who claim to have witnessed paranormal
phenomena there.
On the basis of these interviews, the crew place X's with black or
Gray tape at the sites of some serious alleged paranormal activity.
They later return to these spots in order to set up static
night-vision cameras to try and film it happening.
After
completing the walk-through they discuss their strategy, then are
locked in the location overnight, which they believe will prevent
"audio contamination" and extraneous shadows. They use a
variety of equipment, including digital thermometers, electromagnetic
field (EMF)
meters,
handheld digital video cameras, audio recorders, the Ovilus device,
point of view cameras, and infrared night-vision cameras in an effort
to capture evidence of ghosts. The members sometimes place objects
and shout verbal taunts they believe ghosts might move or respond to.
At
the end of the episode they analyse their audio, photographs, and
video footage, often with the assistance of alleged paranormal
experts, and present anything they feel is "unexplained
phenomena" to the audience.
During
the series the crew claims to have captured and experienced various
Fortean
phenomena,
which they say include simultaneous equipment malfunctions such as
battery drain, voltage spikes, fluctuations in electromagnetic
fields, sudden changes in temperature (such as cold
spots),
unexplained noises, electronic
voice phenomena (EVP),
and apparitions.
The
crew also claim to have recorded spirit
possessions on
video. Bagans believes that he was possessed at the Preston
School of Industry and
at Poveglia
Island
in Italy. Groff claims that he was overtaken by a "dark energy"
at the Moon
River Brewing Company.
Goodwin claims he was "under
the influence of a dark spirit"
at Bobby
Mackey's Music World and
Winchester
Mystery House.
Goodwin
later states in his blog that he determined that the spirit from
Bobby Mackey's was actually more of a spirit guide than a dark spirit
who guides him in his life.
- Ghost Adventures wiki
Ghost
Adventures TV show came out on the Travel Channel on October 17th
2008 after the 2007 release of the Ghost Adventures Documentary.
I came
across Ghost Adventures when the Ghost Adventures Documentary came
out. I quite liked their delivery and got truly hooked thanks to
their first season. I tend to watch each new season with a smile on
my face, although I do admit the show has taken a somewhat darker
turn in the past few seasons. I definitely recommend this show to
everyone especially those who love watching paranormal shows and I
give the show a 9/10.
HAUNTED
TOWNS: Tennessee wraith chasers.
The
series features the Tennessee
Wraith Chasers,
who are back chasing ghosts using their Southern know-how, science,
and engineering during their paranormal investigations. This time,
they investigate the most
haunted locations
in
the most haunted towns in America, exploring the town's dark history,
legend and local lore.
- Haunted Towns wiki.
Haunted towns was
first released on TV on August 15th 2017 on Destination
America and is currently on series 2 The team of Haunted Towns The
Tennessee wraith chasers were also the team on Ghost Asylum
(2014-2016).
Ive only been watching
Haunted towns for a short while (first 4 episodes of season 2) but I
have found it a pretty decent show so far Its pretty similar to Ghost
Adventures and whilst I've only really seen half a series giving it a
7/10 and I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves watching
paranormal shows.
