Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Book blog day boo yah. As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the book Poppet by Mo Hayder.

The Beechway high secure unit in Bristol, England, has a storied past-first as a nineteenth-century workhouse, then a poorhouse for the homeless, and now as a psychiatric hospital. With that troubled history come superstitions like the Maude, believed to be the ghost of a sadistic workhouse matron.

But while some of the patients and staff think the Maude is behind a series of unexplained episodes of self-harm amongst the ward's patients, nursing co0ordinator AJ LeGrande thinks they might be the work of an all too human horror-a homicidal patient who was released back into the public in error.

Calling on Dept. Jack Caffery, LeGrande hopes his investigation will reveal what's truly been going on inside and outside the hospital's walls. But what Caffery discovers about former patient Isaac Handel is beyond anyone's imagination.

- Poppet's good reads page.

Poppet was published on May 14th 2013 by Atlantic Monthly Press. It is the sixth book in the Jack Caffery series and the fourth book in the Walking Man series.

My opinion of Poppet is that is it a very well written and thought out book. Mo Hayder has certainly a flair for getting under the readers skin and Poppet certainly delivers on that front. The story definitely causes goosebumps as it builds to its conclusion, the fact that Caffery the main character along with LeGrande don't fully guess the protagonist until a few connections have been made and the protagonist made a few mistakes the reader doesn't see it until its been read a few times. I do love this book and give it an 9/10 and highly recommend it to those who love crime and thriller books combined.

Mo Hayder, born in 1962 is a British author known for her crime and thriller fiction. Mo Hayder has currently written ten books with an eleventh on the way. Hayder however wasnt always a writer, having worked as a barmaid, security guard, film-maker, a hostess in a Tokyo club, an educational administrator and a teacher of English as a foreign language. Hayder also has a Ma in film from The American University in Washington DC, and an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University. The fifth book Ritual which became the first in the Walking Man series was the CWA Ian Fleming award. Skin the sixth book written, is the secondary book in the Walking Man series and was released in early 2009. In February 2011 the third book in the walking man series and seventh overall Gone was released and won the Edgar award for best novel. Book number eight was Hanging Hill was written in 2011, Poppet came out in 2013 and was followed by book number ten, Wolf in 2014. Mo Hayder has an up and coming book Bonehead which is currently (as of the writing -03/04/2020- and posting of this blog-14/03/2020) in the process of being written.

My opinion of Mo Hayder is that she is a great writer and has a great flair for getting under peoples skin with her words, I would love to meet her and have a conversation about her influences for her stories and how she writes her stories. I'm excitedly awaiting the release of Bonehead.
