Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah.

Ever since Adeline was born, she has been rejected coldly because her family believed to bring bad luck. Her Father's first wife died two weeks after giving birth to her, the fifth child. Soon, her father remarries to Jeanne Prosperi (refereed to as “Niang” in most parts of the story, an alternate term for “Mother” in Mandarin Chinese), a beautiful half-French woman. She regards his first five children, especially Adeline, with distaste and cruelty while favouring her younger son, Franklin, and Daughter, Susan, both born soon after the marriage.

Chinese Cinderella is a Autobiographical novel that was first published on September 7th 1999 by Delacorte Press. I found this book in Waterstones and fell in love with the cover of the book prompting my buying of the book. Ive read the book numerous times over the years and I feel different things every time I read it. I definitely believe Yen Mah has a way with words that make you feel how she felt in that moment. I recommend the book to those who love autobiographies and give the book an 8/10.

Dr Adeline Yen Mah was born in Tianjin, Republic of China in 1937. whilst her actual birthdate was not reported she shares her legal birthday with her father of 30th November. Adeline (Chinese name Yen Junling) spent her childhood being treated harshly due to being considered bad luck by her family due to her mother dying of a puerperal fever after giving birth. By the time she was fourteen Yen Mah had spent time at various different schools and was attending Sacred Heart Canossian College in Hong Kong when she won a playwriting competition with her first story, Gone with the Locusts, which prompted her father to send her to school in England with her older brother James (Yen Zi-Jun). Yen Mah went to study Medicine at the London Hospital Medical School and went on to become an anaesthesiologist before setting up her own medical practice in California. In 1997 Yen Mah published her first autobiography Falling Leaves, which made the New York Bestseller list, selling over a million copies world wide and translated into twenty two languages. The book prompted Yen Mah to quit medicine and follow writing.
