Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on CreepyPastas.

CreepyPastas are in the most basic form are horror related media content that have been copied and pasted around the internet. It is mainly an internet creation with the name being a Portmanteau (a linguistic blend of words) of the words Creepy and Copy Pasta. The term was coined around 2007 on 4chan message boards.

CreepyPastas originally led to short user generated horror stories that were passed around the internet, the term has evolved to be a catch all term for all horror related content posted online. The subject widely varies such as ghosts, murder, zombies and other media like TV shows and games which are supposedly haunted. CreepyPastas range from just a single paragraph to multi-part, multi-media types. CreepyPastas also have sub-genre's. Such as Lost Episodes usually tied to well known and popular TV shows, Video Games usually well known games such as Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda, Psychotic killers: typically teenagers who've become killers due to bad childhoods, accidents, bullying and more the last is Supernatural Monsters that are either made up or based on myths and legends. My favourite CreepyPastas have been Supernatural Monsters and my personal favourite has been based on The Wendigo.

Three of the most well known CreepyPastas are

Slender man:

Slender Man is a tall and thin humanoid with a blank face void of distinguishable facial features and dressed in a trademark black suit and tie. Slender Man came to be thanks to the Something Awful Photoshop competition of 2009. The story tied to him is that he targets children who later disappear and are never found. The legend caused some controversy in 2014 when two 12 year olds lured their friend to the woods and stabbed her 19 times in an attempt to prove Slender man was real. This became known publicly as the Slender Man Stabbing.

Jeff the Killer:

Jeff the Killer starts with a teenager called Jeff who is jumped on the way to school with his younger brother. Jeff manages to save both himself and his brother by fighting back and leaving the bullies behind injured. Jeff later spends several days distraught after his brother claims to be responsible and is arrested. The bullies attack Jeff again at a party where he inevitably kills them but is burned in the process. After a stay in the hospital Jeff after realising he enjoys killing goes insane and mutilates himself. He kills his own family after whispering to each of them “Go to sleep”, thios becomes his trademark as he becomes a serial killer. According to a 2013 article the original image of Jeff the Killer may have been an extremely edited picture of a girl who supposedly committed suicide in 2008.

Ben Drowned:

Ben Drowned was created by internet user Alex Hall (username Jadusable) Ben Drowned follows the story of a college student by the name of matt who finds a used version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask at a yard sale. Matt buys it and starts playing noticing that its haunted by a boy called ben who drowned. After deleting Ben's safe file, Matt receives weird messages like “you shouldn't have done that” and “You've met a terrible fate, haven't you?” as well as experiencing disturbing game glitches.

Adaptions of CreepyPastas have made it on both TV and Cinema with the TV show Chanel Zero focusing each season on a different CreepyPasta and the movie called The Soviet Sleep Experiment coming out in 2020 which is based on the Russian Sleep Experiment CreepyPasta.
