Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the musical Hamilton.

Before I jump into the blog all good and proper I have one thing to say, Today's blog lands on the one year anniversary of the blogs creation and first posting.

Simply known as Hamilton, Hamilton: An American musical tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. The show draws from R&B, Pop, Soul, and traditional style show tunes as well as casting non white actors and actresses as the founding fathers and other historical figures. Through this use of modern storytelling Hamilton is described as being about “America then, as told America now”.

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda got the idea for the musical after reading the 2004 biography of Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. Hamilton was a founding farther of the United States and an instrumental promoter of the US constitution, the US's financial system founder and the first secretary of the treasury. The book went onto win the inaugural George Washington book prise for early American history and was a nominee for the 2005 National Book Critics Circle award in biography.

After researching if a play had been done of the founding father, Miranda started a project called the Hamilton Mix tape after finding a play done in 1917 starring George Arliss as Alexander Hamilton. On May 12th 2009 Miranda was invited to the white house to perform the music from his then Broadway show In the Heights but decided to perform an early version of Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton's opening number instead. Through 2013 and 2014 Hamilton went through the workshop phase before heading to off Broadway theatre called the public theatre on February 17th 2015.

After winning eight Drama Desk awards including outstanding musical and selling out its entire engagement. Hamilton transferred from the Public Theatre to The Richard Rogers Theatre on August 6th 2015. the move didn't deter the positive reviews and high box office sales and at the 2016 Tony awards Hamilton won 11 of its 16 nominations including Best Musical, it later went onto receive the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Whilst Hamilton went onto release its first US tour in 2017, Across the sea in the UK Hamilton opened at the Victoria Palace Theatre in the West-End in December 2017, the west end version went onto win seven Olivier awards in 2018 including Best New Musical. A secondary US tour opened in February 2018 with a third tour opening on January 11th 2019 with a three week run in Puerto Rico in part to raise money for the Puerto Rico recovery fund, starring Miranda in the show as the lead.

I have yet to see Hamilton properly in the theatre with the current cast due to the recent Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent quarantine. However, I have heard both the original Broadway cast album of Hamilton and the Hamilton mix tape, as well as watching the 2016 recording of the original cast on Disney plus which was released last Friday (03/072020) which is what I'll be basing my opinion on in this blog. To me Hamilton is a work of creative genius and provides an interactive view into the history of the US. The actors were brilliant in their roles especially Phillips soo as Eliza Schylar and Anthony Ramos Martinez in the dual roles of John Laurens and Phillip Hamilton.

Lin-Manuel Miranda was born on January 16th 1980 in NYC New York to Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda and Luis A. Miranda Jr a Democratic party consultant. Miranda grew up in Inwood an NYC neighbourhood. Of Puerto Rican decent, Miranda and his older sister Luz would spend summers in Puerto Rico visiting family. Miranda went to both the elementary and high schools of Hunter College where he spent some of his spare time writing musicals. In 1999 during his Sophomore year at Wesleyan University Miranda wrote the first draft of what would become his first Broadway musical Into the Heights.

After his time on Broadway, Miranda was hired by Disney to help write and perform music for Moana for which he received positive reviews and praise from critics as well as nominations for the Golden Globes, Critics choice, Oscars and Grammy awards. Miranda also contributed to Mary Poppins Returns the 2018 sequel to the 1964 original Mary Poppins as Jack a lamplighter and former apprentice of Bert(Dick Van Dyke's character). Miranda also contributed music for both Star Wars Force Awakens in 2015 and The rise of Skywalker in 2019.
