Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the autobiographical book The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.

In 1942, with the Nazis occupying Holland, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, the Franks and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annexe” of an old office building. Cut off from the outside world, they faced hunger, boredom, the constant cruelties of living in confined quarters, and the ever-present threat of discovery and death. In her Diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving and surprisingly humorous, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short.

The Diary of A young Girl was written by German teenager Anne Frank after she received a blank journal for her thirteenth birthday, which she wrote in until she and her family were taken to the Concentration camps in 1944. The diary was found after the second world war and by 1947 thanks to her father Otto Frank, her diary was published on June 25th 1947 by contract publishing. The book proved popular and by 1952 was published in English by Vallentine Mitchell in the UK.

I have known about the diary of a young girl nearly all my life and have read it at various times since my childhood. I highly recommend everyone read the book since its a part of international history even if its merely an autobiography of sorts and I give the book a 10/10.

Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank was born on the 12th of June in 1929 in Frankfurt Germany, to Otto and Edith Frank, a German-Dutch family of Jewish origin. Due to the Nazi's coming to power, Anne moved with her family to Amsterdam, Netherlands at the age of four where she lived most of her life happily. Despite being born a German national Anne lost her citizenship in 1941, having spent the most of 1940 stuck in the Netherlands due to German Occupation. In July 1942 the Franks went into hiding in a suite of rooms hidden behind a set of bookcases until 1994 when they were ratted out to the Gestapo. In October or November 1944, Anne and her sister Margot were transferred from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen Concentration camp, where they died a few months later in either February or March 1945 supposedly of Typhus. Otto Frank Annes father and the only survivor of the family returned to Amsterdam and found her diary which had been saved by his secretary Miep Gies. Thanks to his effort Annes diary started publication in 1947 and by 1952 it was translated and published in English.
