Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is the TV show Futurama

Futurama is an American TV show first airing on Fox from March 28th 1999 to August 10th 2003 then a run on Comedy Central from March 23rd 2008 to September 4th 2013, resulting in seven seasons and four direct to video films. Futurama was developed after a meeting between Fox and Simpsons creator Matt Groening, with Fox expressing a strong desire for a new show to air.

By the fourth season, Futurama had been phased out of the Fox line up rather than outright cancelled. This was due in part to disagreements between Fox and the creators Groening and Cohen on episode release, plus several Fox Executives were not fans of the show according to Groening. For a while reruns of Futurama were on Cartoon Networks Adult Swim section prompting revived interest. By 2009 Comedy Central acquired the rights to Futurama, which went on showing for another three seasons. Futurama received critical acclaim with each season an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and receiving good ratings with other Critic websites. Futurama received several nominations for awards including a variety of Annie, Emmy and writers guild awards from 1999 to 2014 winning nineteen of them. The success of Futurama passed from TV onto Films, comic books and a Video game.

My favourite episodes of Futurama are S1 E11 “Mars University” this is because it shows how university life can be different for many people and how cliché it can be whilst being absolutely funny, S3 E16 “A Leela of her own”, this episode shows how hard it can be for women to be taken seriously in sport all the while showing that working hard and being yourself are good things and S4 E1 “Kif gets knocked up a notch” this episode shows how quickly getting pregnant can be alongside how much of a struggle relationships can be as well as the handling of serious decisions there are several comedic moments in the episode which keeps it from being too heavy.

My favourite characters are Fry, Bender and scruffy the janitor as voiced by Billy West, John DiMaggio and David Herman respectively. Fry for being the way into the story and being a representation of the “every man”, Bender for being a wise cracker some people are and others want to be and Scruffy for providing several hilarious moments throughout the seven seasons. I highly recommend this show to lovers of the Simpsons, family guy and American dad and give the show an 8/10.

Matthew Groening was born February 15th 1954 in Portland Oregon to Margeret and Homer Groening. After attending school in portland, Groening attended The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington graduating in 1977. Groening moved to Los Angeles at the age of 23 to become a writer however he began working what he called "a series of lousy jobs" including an extra on the TV movie "When everyday was the fourth of July" , busking tables and ghostwriting for a retired westrn director.

Groening came under the attention of the producers for the Tracy Ulman show during their search for cartoon fillers all thanks to her first professional cartoon, Life in Hell. Not wanting to loose his creation, Groening created The Simpsons in the Lobby of James L. Brooks office building. Thanks to the Simpsons being a hit. Greoning was approached by Fox to create another cartoon alongside writer David X. Cohen to create what became Futurama. Matt Groening ended up winning two Primetime Emmy awards for Futurama and recieved a star on Hollywood walk of Fame on February 14th  2012
