Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the TV show The Simpsons.

The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom that's a satirical depiction of a working-class family life. Said family is the Simpsons consisting of parents Homer and Marge and their three children Bart, Lisa and Maggie. The show is based in the obviously fictional town of Springfield, parodying American culture, Society, Television and the human condition. The family was created as dysfunctional and submitted several names of his own family as names for the characters.

The Simpsons is a creation of Matt Groening who conceived the family shortly before being solicited to create a series of animated shorts by James L. Brooks. The shorts became part of the Tracy Ullman show for three seasons before becoming its own show in 1989, landing in the Top 30 ratings for that season. Since Its debut on December 17th 1989, 84 episodes across 32 seasons have been broadcast becoming both the longest running American sitcom and longest running American Scripted Primetime television series (both for Episodes and seasons).

The Simpsons Movie was created in the early 2000's and released to theatres on July 27th 2007 to Mostly great reviews receiving an 88% from review site Rotten Tomatoes and an A- by CinemaScore on their A+ to F scale. The movie had been in consideration since series 4 of The Simpsons TV show but it had taken some time to be created due to good ratings of the TV show and general issues writing the script. The Simpsons video came came out on October 30th of the same year across multiple platforms including PS2 and 3 ad the Xbox 360. The game received mixed reviews with a 71% from critic website Metacritic with Praise focusing on Visuals and writing.

Whilst the first ten series are generally considered The Golden Age of The Simpsons run and has been criticized for perceived decline in quality, Time named it 20th Century's best TV series. The A.V. TV Club's Erik Adams named it “Television's crowning achievement regardless of format”. Since the beginning of the show has won dozens of awards including 34 Primetime Emmy awards, 34 Annie Awards, and 2 Peabody Awards. More recently, as of February 29th 2019 The Simpsons were renewed for the 31st and 32nd seasons, the former began airing later that year on September 29th and finished on May 17th 2020, The latter series which will start airing on September 27th 2020 and will include the 700th episode. The Simpsons is under joint production under Gracie Films and 20th Century Fox TV with syndication by 20th Television. The Simpsons have been such an influence that not only has Homers signature catchphrase “D'oh!” but the show has influenced several other Adult-oriented animated sitcom.

My favourite Simpsons Characters are Bart Simpson, voiced by Nancy Cartwright, Side-Show Bob voiced by Kelsey Grammar, Fat Tony Voiced by Joe Mantegna, Bart for showing a kid can be good despite being creatively destructive, Side-Show Bob for being a smart man in a low paying job with love of theatre and Fat Tony for being a smart business man (Plus Grammar and Mantegna for being meltingly smooth talkers). S2 E1 “Bart gets an F”, S3 E2 “Mr. Lisa goes to Washington”, S5 E1 “Homer's Barbershop Quartet” are my favourite episodes. Mainly due to being episodes that show growth of character and housing hilarious moments. S25 E21 “Pay Pal” and S29 E4 “Treehouse of Horror XXVIII” are also my favourite episodes mainly for showing family dynamics and actions dont always work the way you want (S25 E21) and Halloween is a good time to be creative and alternate ideas of family aren't always the best for yours (S29 E4). Since The Simpsons are a household name, I dont really need to recommend it, and despite a few instances where creativity was low and a few moments where it could have had better storylines I give the show a 9/10.

Matt Groening was born on February 15th 1954 in Portland, Oregon to parents Margaret and Homer Groening, the middle of five children. Groening after spending his childhood and schooling in Portland, Groening attended the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. A liberal arts school described by Groening as “a Hippie college with no grades or required classes that drew every weirdo in the Northwest” Groening graduated in 1977 and at the age of 23 to become a writer however he began working what he called “a series of lousy jobsincluding an extra on the TV movie 'When everyday is the fourth of July', busking tables and ghostwriting for a retired western director.

Groening, inspired by several animations including Disney's adaption of 101 Dalmatians created Life in Hell whilst working at the record store Licorice Pizza, his first strip titled 'Forbidden words' was sold to the avant-garde magazine Wet in 1978 appearing in the September/October issue. It was Life in Hell that attracted the attention of James L. Brooks, not wanting to loose his creation, Groening created The Simpsons as an alternative instead. This decision led to huge success as well as allowing Groening to create Futurama alongside writer David X. Cohen in the late nineties.

Groening went onto win thirteen Primetime Emmy Awards for his work, eleven specifically for The Simpsons, Groening also won a British Comedy Award in 2004 for “Outstanding contribution to Comedy”. In 2002 Groening won the National Cartoonist Society Reuben Award for his work on Life in Hell and on February 14th 2012 Groening received a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame.
