Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the book series of Tracy Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson.

The story of Tracy Beaker is told from the point of view to Tracy herself, who is a troubled ten year old. The reason for Tracy's bad behaviour steams from her feeling lonely, frustrated and unloved. Tracy lives in a children's residential care home nicknamed the dumping ground where she was placed due to neglect and domestic violence. Her mother often left Tracy alone when she was young and doesn't have an interest in her daughters life. Despite not being with her mother, Tracy misses her and would often sit by the same window waiting for her mother. Tracy has difficulty getting along with the staff and other children including a girl called Justine Littlewood. From an adults point of view Tracy has “Behavioural issues” and often tells lies. Despite this Tracy is very imaginative loves to write including her own autobiography and believes her mother will come home one day. She often portrays a deep and complicated mind.

The story of Tracy Beaker was published on February 14th by publishers Doubleday and is followed by both The Dare game, starring Tracy Beaker and Tracy Beakers Thumping Heart (A red nose day special). The Story of Tracy Beaker became a TV show on CBBC for five series running from 2002 to 2005 and includes both a feature length episode called Tracy Beakers Movie of Me which broadcast in 2004 as well as several interactive episodes for Children in need. Tracy beaker originally had the first season on Netflix but was removed fro some unknown reason, currently seasons 1-3 are on Amazon Prime. The book was also made into a musical in 2008.

I loved reading Tracy Beaker as a child, for some reason it gave me some sense of what the world could be for other children, especially those of a different background and experience set to me. I highly recommend the book to 8-11 year olds especially and give the book an 8/10.
