Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Minimalism.

Minimalism started out as an artistic movement that began life the post WW2 era, especially in the west, becoming prominently strong with American Visual arts during the late 1960'2 and early 1970's. Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, Dan Flavin, Carl Andre, Robert Morris, Anne Truitt, and Frank Stella are amongst the artists most prominent with Minimalism. The movement is often an interpreted reaction against both abstract expressionism and modernism: the anticipated contemporary post minimal art practices, which extend or reflect on minimalisms original objectives.

Another branch of Minimalism is simple living. Simple Living pretty much encompasses a variety of different voluntary practices to simplify one's lifestyle. This may include such things as the reduction of the owning of possessions or increasing self-sufficiency. Simple living/Minimalism can be characterised by someone being satisfied with what they have instead of what they want. Although Asceticism generally promotes the life of simply living and refraining from luxurious indulgence, not all components of simple living is ascetics. Simple living is different to living in forced poverty as it's more of a voluntary lifestyle.

The reason for looking into minimalism for me is because I am seeking some change in my life, and decluttering my home and getting rid of items I no longer want or need seams a very good place to start. Ive been looking into those who are minimalists and work with minimalism to a degree as part of my research and have already started some decluttering of my own especially from my wardrobe and general bathroom things. If you wish to have a look at what I'm doing, I'll be posting photos on My Instagram's @Mama_orge and bandersnatchblog, every few weeks showing before and after pictures of what I've done.

Here are some pros and cons of Minimalism:

Pro 1: The process of letting things go gets easier over time.

Con 1: It's difficult to embrace a minimalist lifestyle.

Pro 2: You are in control of what minimalism is to you.

Con 2: Deciding what minimalism is for you can be confusing and overwhelming.

Pro 3: You can determine the value of an item you have and dig deeper.

Con 3: Things can loose lustre and you're not easily impressed with the threat of being underwhelmed.

Pro4: You develop patience and discipline instead of jumping head first into the “WANT!” desire.

Con 4: The urge to buy the things you “Like” and “Love” will be strong even if its not the right time to buy it.

Pro5: The understanding of yourself both mentally and physically can be an improvement overall.

Con 5: Being a minimalist can be lonely.

If you're interested in minimalism I highly recommend doing your own research however down in the bibliography there are a selection of YouTubers who follow the minimalism lifestyle in various ways, as well as a few website pieces discussing Minimalism, what it is and ways you could try it yourself.
