Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

In Spring 1922, Nick Carraway—A Yale Alumnus from the Midwest and a veteran of the Great War—journeys east to NYC to obtain employment as a Bond Salesman. He rents a bungalow in the Long Island village of West Egg, next to the luxurious estate inhabited by Jay Gatsby, an enigmatic multi-millionaire who hosts dazzling soirées yet doesn't partake in them

The Great Gatsby was written by author F. Scott Fitzgerald and published on the 10th of April 1925 in the US by Charles Scribner's Sons and a year later in the UK on February 10th 1926 by Chatto and Windus. The Novel depicts narrator Nick Carraway's interactions with mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby, and Gatsby's obsession to reunite with his former lover Daisy Buchanan.

The book was influenced by the youthful romance he had with a socialite and by the parties he attended during the 1920's. Following a move to the French Riviera, Fitzgerald completed a rough draft by 1924, which after being handed to his editor was revised into the story known today. After its publication The Great Gatsby received mixed reviews from the literary critics resulting in being sold poorly, although he felt the critics interpreted his story wrong by his Death in 1940 Fitzgerald felt he'd failed as a writer and his work forgotten. However during WW2 and afterwards his work especially Gatsby faced a strong revival in reading, critical and scholarly re-examination. It soon become a core part of most American high-school curricula and a focus of American popular culture resulting in numerous stage and film adaptions including the 2013 movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher.

It took me some time to buy and read The Great Gatsby but when I did, it took me some time to read it properly and to be truthful I've struggled to read it all the way through however I highly recommend the book to everyone who loves to read the classics and personally give the book a 6/10.

F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24th 1896 to a upper-middle-class family in St Paul Minnesota. But was primarily raised and schooled in New York. Fitzgerald had originally attended Princeton University but due to a preoccupation with writing and a failed relationship he dropped out to join the Army in 1917. Whilst with the military and stationed far from home he fell in love with a socialite, one miss Zelda Sayre, despite rejecting him at first due to financial reasons, Zelda agreed to marry Fitzgerald after he'd successfully published This Side of Paradise in 1920.

Fitzgerald is well known as an American Novelist and Short-Story Writer, Essayist and Screenwriter. His works showcased the flamboyance and excess of the Jazz-age, a term he successfully popularised. During Fitzgerald's lifetime his works -Showcasing four novels, a hundred and sixty four short-stories resulting in four short story collections- achieved temporary success and profit, only receiving critical and popular acclaim after he died. Because of this Fitzgerald is considered and widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century.
