Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is the 2005 movie The Skeleton Key.
Released on July 29th (UK) and August 12th (US) 2005 by Universal Pictures the Skeleton key is a horror story which follows hospice nurse Caroline Ellis as she is hired as a caretaker at an old isolated plantation house in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Violet Devereaux, the ageing Matron needs help with her ailing husband ben, who's mostly parallelized by a stroke, Caroline accepts the position at the insistence of Luke Marshall, the family's estate Lawyer. The Movie follows Caroline as she delves into the world of Hoodoo thanks to strange things happening in the house whilst trying to look after Ben, the movie ends with Caroline trapped in the body of Violet with thanks to the power of Hoodoo and a lot of scary moments.
The Skeleton Key reached No2 at the box office having grossed $16.1 million its first weekend and $92 million worldwide. The movie also rated at 38% on Web Aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with several reviewers stating the movie was slow at times, sluggish and at times lacked tension and suspense although some of the scares made sense with the movies plot but the twist at the end didn't. I personally feel its a good movie in general however I would have loved to have seen more build up in scares both jumpy and supernatural and a better description of both Hoodoo and Voodoo despite having a good Hoodoo twist at the end. I give the movie a 7/10 and recommend it to those who like a scary/horror movie.
