Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Today's Nerd News is on three books: A Dragonbird in the Fern by Laura Ruecket, The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould and The Witch Haven by Sasha Payton Hill. These books were chosen because to me, they look the most interesting.
A Dragonbird in the Fern
by
Laura Ruecket.
When an assassin kills Princess Jiara's older sister Scilla, her vengeful ghost is doomed to walk their city of glittering canals, tormenting loved ones until the murderer is brought to justice. While the entire kingdom mourns, Scilla's betrothed arrives and requests that 17-year-old Jiara takes her place as his bride to confirm the alliance between their countries.
Marrying the young king intended for her sister and travelling to his distant home is distressing enough, but with dyslexia and years of scholarly struggles, Jiara abandoned any hope of learning other languages long ago. She's terrified of life in a foreign land where she'll be unable to communicate.
Then Jiara discovers evidence that her sister's assassin comes from the kings own country. If she marries the king. Jiara can hunt the murderer and release her family from Scilla's ghost, whose thirst for blood mounts every day. To save her family, Jiara must find her sister's killer...before he kills her too.

The Dead and the Dark
by Courtney Gould
The Dark has been waiting for far too long, and it won't stay hidden any longer.
Something is wrong in Snakebite, Oregon. Teenagers are disappearing, some turning up dead, the weather isn't normal, and all fingers seem to point to the TV's most popular ghost hunters who have returned to town. Logan Ortiz-Woodley, daughter of TV's ParaSpectors, has never been to Snakebite before, but the moment she and her dad's arrive, she starts to get the feeling that there's more secrets buried here than they originally let on.
Ashley Barton's boyfriend was the first teen to go missing, and she's felt his presence ever since. But now that the Ortiz-Woodleys are in town, his ghost is following her and the only person Ashley can trust is the mysterious Logan. When Ashley and Logan team up to figure out who-or what- is haunting Snakebite, their investigation reveals truths about the town, their families and themselves that neither are ready for. As the danger intensifies, they realise that their growing feelings for each other could be a light in the darkness.

The Witch Haven
by Sasha Payton Smith
In 1911 New York City, 17-year-old Francis Hallowell spends her days as a seamstress, mourning the mysterious death of her brother a few months prior. Everything changes when she's attacked and a man ends up dead at her feet-her scissors in his neck, and she has no idea how they got there.
Before she can be condemned as a murderess, two cape-wearing nurses arrive to inform her she is deathly ill and ordered to report to Haxahaven Sanitarium. But Frances finds Haxahavan isn't a Sanitarium at all:it's a school for witches. Within Haxahavan's glittering walls, Frances has the sisterhood she craves, but the headmistress warns Frances that magic is dangerous. Frances has no interest in the small, safe magic of her school. And is instead enchanted by Finn, a boy with magic himself who appears in her dreams and tells her he can teach her all she's been craving to learn, lessons that may bring her closer to discovering what truly happened to her brother.
Frances's newfound power attracts the attention of the leader of an ancient order who yearns for magical control of Manhattan. And who will stop at nothing to have Frances by his side. Frances must ultimately choose what matters more , justice for her murdered brother or her growing feelings for Finn, or the safety of her city and fellow witches. What Price must she pay for Power, and what if the truth is more terrible than she ever imagined?.
