Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.

As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the well known classic The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas.

Thrown in prison for a crime he has not committed, Edmond Dantes is confined to the grim fortress of If. There he learns of a great hoard of treasure hidden on the isle of Monte Cristo and he becomes determined not only to escape, but to unearth the treasure and use it to plot the destruction of the three men responsible for his incarceration.

  • The Count of Monte Cristo Goodreads page

The Count of Monte Cristo was published in French through serialisation in the magazine Journal des Debats from 1844 to 1846 in 18 parts, and is an adventure wrapped in in themes of Hope, Justice, Vengeance, Mercy and Forgiveness. The book was later on translated into other languages including English.

Whilst I spent time in the local library attempting to read the Count of Monte Cristo, the book ultimately failed to keep me interested long enough to be read all the way through. It took me several reattempts to read in full. However I get the themes of the book and understand that vengeance shouldn't led your life, as such I give the book itself a 5/10.

Alexandre Dumas was born on July 24th 1802 in France as Dumas Davy de La Pailleterie and was also known as Alexandre Dumas Pere. He passed away on December 5th 1870 with numerous works under his belt including The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers and Twenty years after. Dumas is one of the most widely read French authors with many of his novels -first published as serials- translated into many languages and been adapted into nearly 200 films.
