Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.

As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl.

Who needs a ladder when you've a giraffe with an extended neck?

The ladderless window-cleaning company doesn't. They don't need a pail either, because they have a pelican with a bucket-sized beak. With a monkey to do the washing and Billy as their manager, this business is destined for success. Now they have their big break—a chance to clean all 677 windows of the Hampshire House, owned by the richest man in all of England! That's exciting enough, but along the way there are surprises and adventures beyond their wildest window-washing dreams.

Billy's biggest wish is to turn a weird old wooden house into a wonderful sweet shop. But then he finds a Giraffe, a Pelly and a Monkey living inside- now they're the Ladderless window-cleaning Company! They become best friends, and now that they have a promising job to carry out, there's a chance that Billy's scrumptious, galumptious dream just might come true.

  • The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me Goodreads page.

The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me was first published on January 1st 1985 and is one of Roald Dahl's various books to be illustrated by illustrator Quentin Blake. I love The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me, I find it a good book to read aloud especially if you're looking after younger children, and its to parents of younger children and pre-teens I recommend the book to and I personally give the book a 9/10.

Roald Dahl 13 September 1916– 23 November 1990 was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and fighter pilot. His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide.

Dahl was born in Wales to Norwegian immigrant parents, and he served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He became a flying ace and intelligence officer, rising to the rank of acting wing commander. He rose to prominence as a writer in the 1940s with works for children and for adults, and he became one of the world's best-selling authors. He has been referred to as "one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century". His awards for contribution to literature include the 1983 World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement and the British Books Awards Children's Author of the Year in 1990. In 2008, The Times placed Dahl 16th on its list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945".

Dahl's short stories are known for their unexpected endings, and his children's books for their unsentimental, macabre, often darkly comic mood, featuring villainous adult enemies of the child characters. His books champion the kind hearted and feature an underlying warm sentiment. His works for children include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The witches, Fantastic Mr Fox, The BFG, The Twits and George's Marvellous Medicine. His adult works include Tales of the unexpected.
