Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the seaside resort Brighton.

One half of the unified authority of Brighton and Hove, Brighton has been around in some form or another since the bronze age with archaeological evidence of a settlement supporting such a thought including the times of the Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. Brighton was mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 as Brighthelmstone, growing in importance during the middle ages as the Old town formed. However during the early modern period the area was affected by bad weather, foregin attacks and a combined declining population and declining economy. Thanks to its position along the southeastern coast, being 47 miles from London, Brighton began to attract more visitors thanks to improved roads from the capital and being a boarding point for boats to France. Brighton also developed itself as a health resort, becoming extremely popular for sea bathing in aid of curing illnesses.

Brighton, exploded with popularity during the Georgian Era when King George the 4th, then Prince Regent spent a large amount of time there, building the Royal Pavilion during the Regency Era. Thanks to this Brighton continued to grow becoming a tourist cultural centre thanks to the arrival of the Railways in 1841, giving Day-trippers access to Brighton. Various attractions such as The West Pier (ruined remains due to closure and falling into disrepair in the 1970's and battered by storms during 2002), not to be confused with its sister pier, the Brighton Palace Pier (built 1899) and hotels The Grand Hotel and The Brighton Metropole, were built during the Victorian era and as life rolled into the 20th century Brighton continued to grow into the small villages around them joining with Hove in 1997 as a unified authority and eventually being granted City status in 2000. As of a 2011 census, the Brighton and Hove district has a residential population of 277,103 and the wider conurbation of Brighton and Hove has a population of 474,485 people. Brightons population has fewer Children and old residents with most being in the 20-44 age range.

Thanks to its location and popularity, Brighton has now become renown for its diverse communities, a quirky shopping area with a large and vibrantly cultural music and arts scene. Thanks to the LGBTQ+ community, Brighton has been recognised as the “Unofficial Gay Capital of the UK”, As of a census in 2021 10.7% of the cities population over the age of 18 identifies as part of the LGBTQ_+ community, the highest percentage of the whole UK, this also includes the highest percentage of same-sex households and the largest number of civil partnership registrations outside of London. Brighton has also been called the UK's “Hippest City” and “The happiest place to live in the UK”. Brighton is the third highest within its homeless population, and is also known to be one of the most Godless cities, however both Christianity and Islam are the highest beliefs amongst the population.
