Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.

As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it.

Today's blog is on The book GONE GIRL by author Gillian Flynn.

THE BOOK

Gone Girl was written around the late 2000's early 2010;s by American author Gillian Flynn released by publishers Crown Publishing Group in June of 2012. labelled a crime and suspense thriller, Gone Girl grew in popularity and made the New York Times Best Seller List. No doubt the success of the book is two fold with its main theme being that of Dishonesty and the superficial nature of appearance and in its sense of suspense comes from whether or not Nick Dunne is responsible for the disappearance of his wife Amy. The books critics in the US received and reviews the novel rather positively, citing the authors use of unreliable narration, plot twists and suspense added to it.

THE MOVIE ADAPTION

Gone Girl was considered for a movie almost straight out of the gate, The rights for Gone Girl were bought by Reese Witherspoon's company and 20th Century Fox of which $1,5 million US dollars was spent. Gillian Flynn the author was brought in to write the screenplay, Witherspoon produced the film alongside Leslie Dixon, Bruna Papandrea and Cean Chaffin, with Witherspoon citing she was drawn tot he script because of its strong female characters as well as the use of multiple perspectives and non-linear structure. It was announced in May 2013 that actors Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike were cast as Nick and Amy Respectively and that the movies director would be David fisher. The movie received co financing from New Regency and Fox, the movie was later released on October 3rd 2014.

I knew of Gone Girl when it first came out but didn't go off and read it, I was admittedly in a very different head space back then so I most likely wouldn't have read it, however I did end up seeing the movie first, and fell in love with Rosemund Pike (Amy Dune), as she is a very good actress. It took a little time to decide to buy the book partially to see if it would be like the book and partially to see what was different. Whilst structured differently to the movie, the book and the movie were extremely similar. I think it helped the author wrote the screenplay. The twist was my favourite part of both the book and movie, and Amy is my favourite character in both, with Movie Nick a close second. I give the book a 9/10 and highly recommend the book to all who love reading especially crime thrillers and suspense books. I also give the movie an 8/10 and highly recommend everyone go watch it.
