As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the well known poem

A Visit from Saint Nicholas.

A visit from St. Nicholas also known as the Night Before Christmas and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Due to the first line) is a poem first published in 1823 anonymously under the title of Account of a visit from St. Nicholas. The Poem was later accounted to Clement Clarke Moore who claimed authorship in 1837

The Poems plot follows a family as they settle down to sleep on Christmas Eve, the father is awakened boy Saint Nicholas who is unintentionally causing noise. He watches as Saint Nick, deliver the presents under the tree and fill the stockings before they share a conspirational moment and Saint Nick disappears back up the chimney again. As he flies away Saint Nick calls out

A Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night”

The poem has arguably been 'the best known verses ever written by an American' and is largely responsible for the conception of Santa Claus from the mid 19th century onwards. It had a massive effect on Christmas Gift Giving and united was was already some varied ideas of St Nick and other Christmas Characters. The poem was later set to music and has been recorded several times over by many artists.
