Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Saint Patrick, The Patron Saint of Ireland.

Saint Patrick's Day or The Feast of Saint Patrick (La Fheile Padraig) is a public holiday with ties of religious and cultural significance held on the 17th of March. The traditional death date of Saint Patrick. The foremost Patron Saint of Ireland.

Saint Patrick was considered to be a Romao-British Christian missionary and Bishop in Ireland around the 5th century. Much of what's known about the saint comes from The Declaration which was supposedly written by the saint himself. It's to be believed that Saint Patrick was born in Britain to a Romao-British family with ties to the church around the fourth century. According to The Declaration, he was kidnapped at sixteen by Irish raiders and taken to Gaelic Ireland to be a slave. During the six years, where he was a shepherd, Patrick found God. Patrick was then prompted by god to flee to the coast and board a ship whose captain was willing to take him home, back to Britain. Patrick would then go onto become a priest.

According to Tradition, Patrick returned to Ireland to convert the Pagen Irish to Christianity. The Declaration says he spent many years in Northern Ireland, evangelising and managed to convert thousands to said religion. Such efforts were turned into an allegory (generalisations about symbolic fictional figures and truths about the human existence), In which Saint Patrick drove “Snakes” out of Ireland.....Despite the fact that Snakes were not known to naturally inhabit Ireland. Traditions state he died on March 17th and was buried at Downpatrick. Over the following centuries to present day, many legends surrounded Saint Patrick leading him to become Ireland's foremost saint.

Celebrations today for Saint Patrick's Day have been influenced by Those amongst the Irish Diaspora (The Irish Migrants and their decedents who live outside of Ireland), especially in North America. Pretty much up until the late 20th century Saint Patrick's day was more celebrated AND a much bigger celebration outside of Ireland. In 1903, Saint Patrick's day became an official public holiday in Ireland, thanks to Irish MP James O'Mara who introduced the Bank Holiday Act 1903 for Ireland to Parliament (the main governing body for UK). Nowadays Irish Government ministers travel abroad on official visits, using Saint Patrick's day to promote Ireland (a decent PR move) and from 2010 onwards, famous landmarks around the world: The Sydney Opera House, Australia, The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy, The London Eye, London to name a few, get lit up Green. The Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Sky Tower in Auckland were the first to Participate leading to over three hundred landmarks over fifty countries since then to light up green or have gone green for Saint Patrick's day.
