Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Elections and the political parties.

Yesterday in the city where I live was the Elections for the Police and Crime Commissioners for Sussex police area and it got me thinking ans as such here's a blog,

An Election is a formal group making decision process. Of which a population or group collectively choses an individual or multiple individuals to hold public office for a time. Elections have been the usual mechanism for voting since the 17th century. Elections fill many offices in the Legislature, along with the executive, Judiciary and for regional and local governments. This process can also be used in private and business organisations from clubs to corporations and voluntary associations,

In the UK. There are five types of elections: Elections to the House of Commons (UK Government), elections to devolved parliaments and assemblies (General elections when all seats are contested), local elections Mayoral elections and Police and Crime Commissioner elections. Within each of these elections there can be By-Elections. Most elections tend to be held on “Election Day” which conveniently, tends to be on Thursdays.

In the pursuit of fairness and equality here's the political parties that ran in the local elections...

THE CONSERVATIVES

aka

THE TORIES

With the official name of The Conservative and Unionist Party and commonly known by and called both the Conservatives and The Tories. The Tories are currently one of the main political parties of the UK having been founded in 1834 and have been the main governing body since 2010. The Tories politics sit both Right-wing and Centre Right on the general political spectrum, it holds various factions within itself including One-Nation Conservatives, Thatcherites and Traditionalist Conservatives. The Tories played a pre-eminent position during the height of the British Empire with Benjamin Disraeli being a well known leader. In 1912 the Liberal Unionist Party joined forces with the Tories forming the Conservative and Unionist Party, From 1920 the Tories main political rivals have been the Labour party, such rivalry has shaped modern British Politics for the last century. The Tories hold an annual conference at which the senior conservative figures promote party policy.

THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATES

aka

THE LIB DEMS

The Liberal Democrats, commonly called the Lib Dems are a Liberal political party which were founded in 1988 and are the UK's third largest political party since the early 1990's. The Lib Dems are descended from an electoral alliance between The Liberal party, an offshoot of the Whigs party and the SDP (Social democratic party) a splinter group from the Labour party becoming official in 1988. During the 1990's and 2000's the Lib Dems grew focusing its campaigns on specific seats and becoming the third-largest party in the house of commons.

The Lib Dems currently have 15 members of parliament in the house of commons, 84 members in the house of lords, 4 in the Scottish parliament and one in the Welsh Senedd. The Lib Dems currently (as of the writing of this blog) 3,000 members in local council seats. The party holds a conference twice a year where party policy is discussed and formed and party members are allowed to speak in debates and vote on party policy under a one member one vote policy. The Lib Dems have worked coalitions with Scottish Labour in the Scottish Executive from 1999 to 2007, with Welsh Labour in the Welsh Government from 2000 to 2003 and 2016 to 2021 and with Labour in the houses of parliament from 2010 50 2015.

THE LABOUR PARTY

aka

LABOUR

The Labour party, simply called Labour is one of the main political parties of the UK, and is effectively an alliance of Social Democrats, Democratic socialists and Trade Unionists. Created in 1900 from the Trade Union movement and socialist parties of the 19th century, Labour sits on left-wing/centre-left politics. By the 1920s Labour became the Conservatives main opposition and is considered the second-largest political party in the UK. Like the other Political parties Labour hosts a regular yearly party conference.

THE GREEN PARTY OF ENGLAND AND WALES

aka

THE GREENS

The Green party of England and Wales, known simply as The Greens, is a green left wing political party in England and Wales. The Party currently has one representative in the House of Commons and Two in the house of Lords as well as over seven hundred councillors at the local government levels and three members of the London Assembly.

The Greens political ideology combines Environmentalism with left wing politics, including public services which are well funded and locally controlled. The party also advocates for a steady-state economy with the regulation of capitalism and the support of proportional representation. The party is well known with its progressive approach to social policies which include civil liberties, animal and LGBTQIA rights and Drug policy reform. The party also has a strong belief in non-violence, universal basic income, a living wage and democratic participation. The Greens are however split into various regional divisions, including the semi-autonomous Wales Green Party and is internationally affiliated with both the Global greens and the European Green Party.
