Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Steiner Schools also known as Waldorf Education.
Steiner schools also known as Waldorf/Steiner Education is based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Anthroposophy. Its Educational style is holistic with the intent to develop pupils intellectual, artistic and practical skills with a focus on imagination and creativity. Individual teachers often have a great deal of autonomy in curriculum content, teaching methods and governance. Qualitative assessments are integral to the daily life of the classroom with standardised testing limiting what's required to enter post secondary education.
The first Waldorf school was opened in Stuttgart Germany in 1919 in response to a request by Emil Mott. The owner and manager of the Waldorf-Astoria Cigarette Company. The request had been made as a proposal to educate the children of the factories workers. Molt a follower of Anthroposophy and used some of the teachings of the founder Rudolph Steiner to form the initial educational topics. Over a century later, its become the largest independent school movement with 1,200 schools and nearly 2,000 kindergartens in 75 countries as well as 500 centres for special education in more than 40 countries.
Waldorf education aims to educate children about a wide range and variety of religious traditions without favouring one specifically. One of Steiner's primary aims was to establish a spiritual yet non-denominational setting for children of all backgrounds. One that recognised the value of role models drawn from a wide range of literary and historical traditions especially in developing children's fantasy and moral imaginations. For Steiner himself, education was an activity that fosters the human connection to the divine and hence inherently religious.
Many Waldorf Schools have come under controversy due in part to Steiner's racist ideology and magical thinking. Others faced regulatory audits and closure over substandard treatment of children with special needs. Critics of Waldorf education point out the mystical nature of Anthroposophy and the incorporation of Steiner's esoteric ideas into the curriculum. Waldorf schools have also been linked to the outbreak of infectious diseases due to the vaccine hesitancy of many Waldorf parents.
Rudolph Joseph Lorenz Steiner born on either the 25th or 27th February 1861 and died on 30th March 1925 was an Australian occultist, reformer, architect, esotericist and claimed clairvoyant. By the end of the 19th century, Steiner had recognition as a literary critic and published works including The Philosophy of Freedom. At the Beginning of the 20th century He'd founded an esoteric spiritual movement, Anthroposophy with roots in German Idealist Philosophy and theosophy. His teachings are influenced by Christian Gnosticism (also known as Heresiologists) Many of the ideas are Pseudoscientific and Steiner himself was prone to pseudohistory.
