Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the upcoming Wicked Musical Movie.
Wicked also being labelled as Wicked: Part One (due to being made into two movies), is an upcoming American musical fantasy film. It is a combined adaption of both The musical Wicked and the 1995 book it's based on, Wicked the life and times of the Wicked witch of the west by Gregory Maguire (The Musical is also based on the novel), The plot of which, set before the wizard of oz and follows Elphaba and her path to becoming the Wicked Witch of the West and her unlikely friendship/rivalry with the classmate who becomes Glinda the Good.
The director is Jon M. Chu and was written by Winnie Holzman. The main characters of Elphaba and Glinda are to be played by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande respectively, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum are starring as Madame Morrible and The wizard respectively. Actors Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode (In her film Debut), Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, and Peter Dinklage take up several supporting roles.
Wicked as a movie as been floating around since it gained popularity on both Broadway and The West End, with Universal Pictures fully announcing the movie as an adaption back in 2012. after 12 years of development and a delay due to the Covid-19 outbreak. By 2021 both director and main cast were hired and by December 2022 Principle Photography had begun, which was paused during the SAG-AFTRA strike of 2023, Principle photography concluded in January of 2024.
Wicked: Part One will be released on November 27th of 2024, whilst Wicked: Part Two will be released on November 26th 2025.
I am well bomb excited for this movie and will be going to see it as close to opening day as possible and will attempt to see it several times, over the course of its run, since I have read the book and seen the musical before.
