As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror.


Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (German Translation: Nosferatu: Eine Symphonie des Grauens), is a 1922 German Expressionist silent film of the Vampire genre, directed by F. W. Murnau with Max Schreck starring as Count Orlok, A vampire who preys on his estate agents wife, bringing the plague to their town.


Nosferatu was produced by Prana Film and though various names and other details were changed from the novel it was based on to be more German so it would appeal to its German speaking viewers. Dracula was accepted to be its source. As such the heirs to Stokers Estate sued over the adaption and the court ruled in their favour resulting in the majority of copies being destroyed. However several prints survived an as such the film has gone onto become an influential masterpiece of cinema and the horror genre specifically. Kim Newman Critic and Historian has declared the film that set the template for the genre of Horror Film.


There is to be a remake of Nosferatu, which will have an American release on December 25th 2024, Directed by Robert Eggers and pulling influence from the original movie and the Book Dracula, the movie will be an American Gothic Horror starring some well known actors such as Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Holt, Lily Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe to name a few. Development began in 2015 with Eggers stating it was a passion project but opted for a delayed production. The cast began joining in 2022 with Primary Filming taking place around Prague around February to May of 2023.


Dracula is the 1897 gothic horror novel written by Irish Author Bram Stoker. Considered an Epistolary Novel (relation to the writing of letters), the story's narrative is told through Letters, Diary entries and Newspaper articles. Whilst there's no one Protagonist and opens with solicitor Jonathon Harker taking a business trip to aid Transylvanian nobleman Count Dracula. Dracula follows Harker to England after the solicitor escapes his castle after the revelation that Dracula is a Vampire. Whilst Dracula haunts the seaside town of Whitby, A small group led by Abraham Van Helsing, investigate, Hunt and Kill Dracula.


Abraham Stoker (November 8th 1847- April 20th 1912), was an Irish author best known for Dracula the 1897 Gothic Horror Novel. However during his own lifetime he was best known as being the personal assistant of the English actor Sir Henry Irving, as well as being the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London's West-End......which Irvin consequently owned.
