Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Addams Family.
The Addams Family is an infamous fictional family created as a series of 150 Stand-a-lone Single-panel comics, half of which were originally published in The New Yorker by American Cartoonist Charles Addams (January 7th 1912 – September 29th 1988). The Cartoon has gone onto be adapted to other Media, such as TV, Film, Video, Games, Other comic books, A Musical and Merchandise
The Addams Family are an eccentric old-money clan who delight in the macabre and the grotesque and they are seemingly unaware or unconcerned that other people find them bizarre or frightening. The family members are Gomez and Morticia, their children Pugsley and Wednesday (and Pubert if you count the 1993 movie) as well as Grand-Mama (depending on the brand if she's Morticia's or Gomez and Festers mother), Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and the Butler Lurch. They also have several pets, including Pugsley's pet Octopus, Aristotle, The dimly lit Thing (usually considered a disembodied hand), Morticia's pet lion named Kitty-Kat and a Carnivorous Plant called Cleopatra.
Having been a staple in Pop culture for eight decades, The Addams Family Franchise has spawned a video game series, various academic books and soundtracks, which are based around its theme song with holds a Grammy Nomination. The Addams Family has also influenced various American comics, and held a Live action TV show during the 60's which ran for two seasons as well an unrelated animation series in 1973 as well as a Telefilm in 1977. A set of Movies that were set during the 90's called The Addams Family (1991) and The Addams Family values (1993) which influenced an animated TV adaption (1992-1993), A straight to Video Film (1998) and another Live action TV series (1998-1999). Near two decades later in 2010 a musical starring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth came to the broadway stage and was nominated for Two Tony Awards and Eight Drama desk award, Winning the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design. The series was rebooted again in 2019 with an animated Movie followed by a Sequel in 2021 both of which received good reviews. In 2022 Netflix released Wednesday, an 8 Episode spin off of the original 19634TV series with a second season coming in 2025
The Goth subculture also claims influence from The Addams Family for clothing.
