Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Tim Burton Film The Nightmare before Christmas.

The Nightmare before Christmas (AKA Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas) an a 1993 American Stop-motion Animated musical fantasy film which was Director Henry Selick's Directorial Debut, and was both conceived and produced by Tim Burton. The Movie tells the story of Jack Skellington, the King of “Halloween Town”, who unknowingly stumbles across “Christmas Town” and schemes to take over the Holiday. The Musical score was written by Danny Elfman who also sang for Jack. The Principal voice cast included Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey Ken Page (2024), Paul Reubens, Glenn Shadix and Ed Ivory.

The Nightmare before Christmas began as a poem Tim Burton wrote in 1982 whilst working as an animator at Walt Disney Productions. Thanks to the success of Vincent that same year Burton considered developing the poem into a film either as a short film or half hour special to no avail, However Burton would return to the project over the years and eventually made a deal with Walt Disney to develop it. Disney would release the movie through Touchstone pictures due to the believe it was “too dark and scary for children”

Given a limited public release for October 13th 1993 before its wide theatrical release on October 29th. The Nightmare before Christmas premiered at the New York Film Festival on October 9th 1993. The film was met with commercial and critical success upon release, earning much praise for its characters, song and score as well as its animation, which was an innovative stop motion. Whilst being a modest hit on release, the film has gathered a large cult following and is widely regarded as one of the best animated films of all time. Despite being the first animated movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects (the first for an animated film), It lost to Jurassic Park, Frownie Face....Thirteen years later after its original release, Disney would reissue the movie and re-release it annually via Disney Digital from 2006 to 2010.
