As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux.
First
published as a serial run from September 23rd 1909 to
January 6th 1910 in the publication of La Gaulois, The
Phantom of the Opera or Le Fantome de l'Opera in the original French,
written by author Gaston Leroux was released as a full novel in Mach
1910 by Pierre Lafitte. The Novel's inspiration came from a
historical event at the Paris Opera in which a former ballet pupil's
skeleton was used in the 1841 production of Carl Maria Von Weber's
Der Freischutz.
The Phantom of the Opera tells the tale of beautiful soprano Christine Daae, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious yet disfigured musical genius who lives in the Paris Opera House's subterranean Labyrinth. The story has become so popular it has been adapted rather successfully into various stage and screen adaptions including a 1925 film adaption featuring Lon Chaney and a 1986 musical adaptation by Andrew Lloyd-Webber
Gaston Louis Alfred Leroux (May 6th 1868-April 15th 1927) was a French journalist and Author of Detective Fiction. In English speaking parts he is best known for writing The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fantome de l'Opera 1909), which has been adapted several times for both stage and screen, the best known being the 1925 film of the same name starring Lon Chaney and the !986 musical of the same name by Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Leroux's 1907 novel The Mystery of the Yellow Room is also a celebrated book of the Locked Room Mystery Genre.
Andrew Lloyd-Webber Baron Lloyd-Webber KG (Born March 22nd 1948) is an English composer and Impresario (and organiser and financier of theatre) of musical theatre. Several of Lloyd-Webber's musicals, of which there are twenty one he has composed, have run for a decade or more in London's West End as well as New York's Broadway. Lloyd-Webber has also composed a song cycle, a set of variations, two film scores and a Latin Requiem Mass.
