Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the Irish song Molly Malone.

Molly Malone, also known as “Cockles and Mussels” and “In Dublin's Fair City” is a song set in
Dublin Ireland which in effect has become an unofficial anthem. The song follows the tale of a fishwife who plies her trade on the streets of Dublin and dies young of a fever. Molly is typically represented as a hawker by day, part-time prostitute by night, shes also portrayed as one of the few chaste female street hawkers of her day.

There's no concrete evidence hat the song is based on a real woman from the 17th century or in any other time. The name Molly originated as version of Mary and Margaret. Many “Molly Malone's” were born in Dublin over the centuries however no evidence connects any of them to the song or the events in the song. Nevertheless, in 1988 a claim was endorsed by the Dublin Millennium Commission for a Mary Malone who died on June 13th 1699 and proclaimed June 13th as “Molly Malone Day”. In July 2014, due to the Luas track Laying at the original site of Grafton street, the statue was relocated to Suffolk street and placed in frount of the Tourist Information Office.
