Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Troxlers Fading also known as The Troxlers effect

Troxlers Fading also known as Troxler fading and The Troxler Effect is an optical illusion which effects visual perception. When one fixates on a particular point for a short period of time, an unchanging stimulus away from the fixation point will fade away and disappear. Research into it has suggested that at least some portion of the perceptual phenomena associated with Troxlers fading occurs in the brain.

Swiss physician, politician and philosopher Ignaz Paul Vital Troxler (1780-1866) was the man to first identify Troxlers Fading in 1804 whilst he was practising as physician in Vienna at the time.

Troxlers fading has been attributed to the adaptation of neurons vital for perceiving stimuli in your eyes. It's part of the general principle in sensory systems that unvarying stimuli son disappear from our awareness. For example a piece of paper falls onto your arm ans after a small amount of time you'll forget its there. This is because tactile neurons have adapted and start ignoring unimportant stimulus.
