Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Sinusitis.
Sinusitis also known as Rhinosinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses, more specifically the mucous membranes that line them. The resulting symptomd incoude the production of thick nasal mucus, nasal congestion, facial pain, pressure and congestion as well as a loss of smell or Fever.
Sinusitis is a condition that can affect both adults and children and is usually caused by a combination of the environment and induvidual peoples health factors, like in people with allergies, being exposed to environmental irritants, or having structual abnormalities of the nasal cavity and sinuses or poor immune function. Most cases can be caused by a viral infection and the recurrent episodes usually effect people with Astma, Cystic Fibrosis or those with Immunodeficiency.
Treatment for Sinusitis can be two-fold and includes Rest, taking a lot of Fluids, taking pain releivers such as Paracetomol and Ibruprofen and saline nasal rinses, warm compressions and steam inhalation can also be helpful. If symptoms persist or get worse then doctor pescribed medication such as nasal corticosteroids or decongestants. In the most severe or chronic cases, surgery is an option.
Whilst I AM NOT A DOCTOR/NURSE/ HEALTH PRACTITIONER:
If You're suffering from Sinusitis I highly recommend rest, meds and drinking many fluids, even taking a hot shower may help with pressure and pain. If symptoms persist I definitely recommend booking an appointment with your GP/Doctor. There are links down below for more information.
