Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Eostre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess for Easter/Ostara.
Eostre is an Ang;o-Saxon Goddess first mentioned in the Reckoning of Time an 8th century work written by an English monk called Bede (672-735), he wrote that during the month of Eosturmoab (April) which was named after her, feasts would be held in Eostre's honour. Eostre eventually became the basis for Easter.
IT has been debated if Bede created Eostre, especially before developments in Indo-European studies and the discovery of the Matronae Austiahenae. Due to these developments and some research, modern scholars genuinely accept that Eostre was a genuine Pagan Goddess. Eostre along with Ostara are often mentioned in popular culture as neopagan forms of Easter.
Ostara is considered by scholars as the high German version of Eostre, having come from Ostarmanoth the High German for April. Their theory is supported by votive inscriptions dedicated to goddesses called the Matronae Austriahenae which was found in 1958 in Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Germany.
