Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Pastoral Care.

Pastoral Care refers to the provision of emotional and spiritual support to patients, visitors and staff within a healthcare setting. Services can include listening to Life Stories, offering one-on-one time with patients, simple companionship or conducting memorial services. The Specific activities can vary from person to person and whether the care provider follows religious tradition or operates from a secular framework.

Pastoral Care” as a term has evolved through its history and association with Christian Ministry, Modern Institutional pastoral care in Europe has various approaches including those of Multi-faith, Secular and humanist, Such Services offered also vary by institution and may include but not limited to Counselling, Meditation and various forms of psychological support. In some cases of Pastoral Care, the clients can request their preferred type of care. Pastoral Care can also be tied with Palliative Care (Specialised medical care), depending on said providers.

In Australia, some private schools use the term “PCG” (Pastoral Care Group) or “Pastoral Period” for Home room with teachers leading said rooms as “PCAs” (Pastoral Care Advisors). In Romania, PCAs can also perform counselling roles.

Within the ancient church, Pastoral Care primarily revolved around the Christians' struggle against sin, which effected their ultimate salvation. The Theologians Clement of Alexandria, Origen and Eusebius of Caesarea understood this as a concern for individual souls. This increased the role of pastoral caregivers as assisting individual Christians with the endeavour.

The field of Pastoral Care has become specialised over the years. In 1993, Browning divided Christian care-giving practices into three different categories, Pastoral Care, Pastoral Counselling and Pastoral Psychotherapy. According to the definition Pastoral Care describes the general work of the clergy of taking care of the people in their communities....this includes funerals, hospital and birthday visits and dialogues. Pastoral care can vary according to the religious denomination.
