Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Quakers.
The Quakers also known as the Religious Society of Friends and originally known as the Society of Friends are a historically Protestant Christian set of denominations. Members often refer to themselves and others as Friends after John 15:14 in the Bible. Quakers are called such due to the founder of the movement, George Fox told a Judge to “Quake before the authority of Judge”.
The Quakers started in England, thanks in part to the religious strife that had existed for centuries. During and after the English Civil War 1642-1651 many dissenting Christian groups emerged including another group called the seekers. George Fox, The Founder of the Quakers, had become dissatisfied with both the church and nonconformists. Whilst living in Mansfield Nottinghamshire in 1647 had a revelation that “There is one, even Christ Jesus, who can speak to thy condition” and believed that it was possible to experience Jesus without the clergy. This was followed up by a 'vision' he had on Pendle Hill in Lancashire in 1652 of “The lord let me see in what places he had a great people to be gathered”. Following this 'vision' Fox travelled not only around England but The Netherlands and Barbados, preaching and teaching with the aim of converting others to his faith. The central theme of his Gospel Message was that Jesus Christ was alive and has come to teach his people himself. Fox considered himself to be restoring a true “pure” Christian Church.
In 2017 there's an estimated 377,577 adult Quakers with 49% reported to live in Africa and 22% in North America.
