Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Howard Ashman.

Howard Elliot Ashman born in Baltimore Maryland on May 17^th 1950 to Shirley Thelma Nee Glass and Raymond Ashman was an American Playwright lyricist and stage director of Jewish decent. Ashman earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1971, after attending Boston University and Goddard College. He also earned a Master of Fine Arts at Indiana university in 1974. Mainly known for his work at Walt Disney with fellow music composer Alan Menken. Ashman has been credited with being the driving force behind the Renaissance era for Disney Movies. His work includes not only Disney movies, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast but Little Shop of Horrors and Smile too.

Ashman was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS during the 1988 production of The Little Mermaid. During the production of Beauty and the Beast, Disney created a production unit near Ashman's home in Beacon, New York. Which allowed him to work whilst undergoing treatment. Ashman didn't live to see the completion of the movie dying at St Vincent's on March 14^th 1991. The Beauty and the Beast was dedicated to his memory with the message “To our friend, Howard, who gave a mermaid her voice, and her beast his soul we will be forever grateful Howard Ashman 1950-1991”

Howard Ashman is buried in the Ohey Shalom Cemetery in Reisterstown, Maryland.

Howard Ashman won two Academy Awards -one of them Posthumously- and seven Academy Award nominations -four Posthumously, the most in Academy Award history-, A Laurence Olivier Award -Awarded Posthumously-, Five Grammy awards – three of them Posthumously- along with other accolades.
