Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the Multi-console game Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a multi console RPG set 4000 years before the rise of the Galactic empire. A former Jedi and Lord of the Sith, Darth Malek has amassed an armada against the Republic. Maleks aggression has left the Jedi scattered and Vulnerable as well as many Jedi falling in battle or swearing allegiance to Malek. The game opens up with your character on the ship The Endor Spire above the planet of Taris. As your character passes through the game you gain fellow characters Carth Onassi, Jedi's Bastala Shan, Juhanni and Jolee Bindo, Mandalorian Canderous Ordo, Droids T3-M4 and HK-47, Twilek Mission Vao and Wookie Zaalbar (Juhanni and HK-47 are optional characters as in they don't have to be brought into the group, PLUS Canderous Ordo, T3-M4, HK-47 and Carth Onassi -optional- reoccurring characters in the second Kotor game). The main thread is your character reaching the Star Forge and defeating Darth Malek after following a galaxy wide scavenger hunt, the secondary thread is finding out your character was once the Dark Lord Revan and the flashbacks you see are your own memories.

The game went into development after Bioware announced they would be working with LucasArts to create the RPG for the PC and Next-Gen Consoles in July 2000. The CEO Greg Zeschuk commented it was “The opportunity to create a richly detailed new chapter in the star wars universe” and “We are honoured to be working with the extremely talented folks at LucasArts”. Setting it 4000 years before Phantom menace gave the developers the freedom to develop a separate story in the expanded universe without taking too much from the main story.

The game was released on July 15th 2003 and became X—boxes fastest ever seller at the time of its launch. The game received universal acclaim according to review aggregator Metacritic and won numerous awards including BAFTA Games Awards best x-box game of the year, interactive achievement awards for best console RPG and best computer RPG as well as Game Developers Choice Awards 2004, the game received several other awards as well. Plot elements from the game were referenced in an 2017 episode of Star Wars Rebels and at the time of this blogs posting in 2019 Lucasfilm was looking into developing movies or TV shows in the KoToR era.

Star wars KoToR was originally going to have two squeals KoToR 2 (The Sith Lords) followed your main character known as the exile as you try to bring together the remaining Jedi to completely wipe out the Sith 5 years after the previous game. The third game was Cancelled in 2003 with elements of the game such as Rodia, a Mandalorian City, a Coruscant vehicle and a new Character called Naresha being published in the 2008 book Rouge Leaders: The Story of LucasArts.

I love playing KoToR have done so since I stumbled across it not long after leaving secondary school. Its great to play when you're wanting to get an RPG fix going on. I happen to appreciate the dual story lines going on, the main storyline at resiting the Dark side and Darth Malek and on the other finding out you were once Darth Revan and deciding you you would be your old self or your new self. On the scale of 1-10 its an 8 the reason for not a full ten because the graphics don't hold up very well over time. However I do recommend playing it as and when you have time to do so.
