Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm Mama Ogre and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Book blog day boo yah. As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the book Ritual by Mo Hayder.

Nine feet underwater, police diver Flea Marley closes her gloved fingers around a human hand. The fact that there's no body attached is disturbing enough-- until the discovery of the matching appendage a day later. Both hands have been freshly amputated, and there are indications that the victim was still alive when they were removed.

Newly seconded tot he major crime investigation unit in Bristol, DI Jack Caffery soon establishes that the hands belong to a young man who has recently disappeared. As Caffery and Marley search for the rest of the victim—and his abductor—they journey into the darkest recesses of Bristol's underworld, where drug addiction is rife, street kids sell themselves for a hit and a disturbing occult ritual may be making an unexpected appearance.

- Ritual's Goodreads page.

Ritual was released on September 15th 2008 by Atlantic Monthly press and is the third book in the Jack Caffery series. The book received generally good reviews and went on to be nominated for the 2009 Barry award for Best British Crime novel and the 2009 Theakston old peculiar crime novel of the year.

I have yet to read ritual all the way through in one go. I find reading Ritual rather uncomfortable and as such it has taken me a long time reading it. Apart from that the book is well written and thoroughly hits you right on the nose crime wise. I give the book a seven out of ten.
