The Girls net door also known as The Girls of the Playboy Mansion was a reality TV series which aired on E! From August 7th to August 8th 2010. The series was created by Executive Producer Kevin Burns and Hugh Hefner (Playboy founder), and focused on the lives of Hef's three girlfriends Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkenson as they lived with Hef at the mansion. The series also showcased several events at the Mansion such as Fight Night, Fourth of July Celebration, Midsummer Celebration Etc. alongside the Girls living their lives, celebrating birthdays and more. The show lasted six seasons with the main three girlfriends leaving in S5, S6 showcased Hef's new girlfriends which however didn't save the show. The Girls next door was followed by four spin-offs Bridget's Sexiest Beaches, Holly's World, Kendra and Kendra on Top.

HUGH “HEF” HEFNER

Born on April 9th 1926 in Chicago to parents Glenn and Grace Hefner, Hef grew up the elder of two boys (Brother Keith Hefner 1929-2016). Hef grew up in a loving home and went onto create Playboy, a magazine he was a founder and editor in chief of, the publication is was mainly revealing photographs and thought provoking articles. The first publication was in 1953 featuring Marilyn Monroe...it sold over 50,000 copies. Hefner expanded the brand into a world network of Playboy clubs with Hef ending up residing in luxury mansions with Playboy “Playmates” sharing his wild lifestyle. Hef styled himself a an advocate of sexual liberation and freedom of expression and was a political activist for the democratic party as well as for the causes of the first amendment rights, animal rescue and the restoration of the Hollywood sign.

Over his lifetime Hef married three times Mildred Williams (1949-1959), Kimberly Conrad (1989-2010) and Crystal Harris (2012-2017)and had four children Christie (1952), David (1955), Marston(1990) and Cooper(1991) with his third wife Crystal Harris being at his side when he died on September 27th 2017 at the age of 91. he died due to sepsis caused by an E. Coli infection, Hef is interred at Westwood Memorial park in LA next to Marilyn Monroe. Hef supposedly paid $75,000 for the crypt in 1992 and told the Los Angeles Times in 2009 “spending eternity next to Marilyn is an opportunity to sweet to pass up”. Hef outlived his brother Keith by 17 months due to Keith passing away on April 8th 2016 one day before Hef's 90th birthday.

I was fifteen/sixteen when I first saw The Girls next door on TV and fell in love with it. The show was pretty much a doorway into a world I knew nothing about Playboy and modelling in general. I think it helped I felt a kinship to all three girls Holly, Bridget and Kendra in different ways. All three of them inspired me and I learned a lot watching the show. I liked Kendra the most but I think that was partially due to being closest to her in age more than anything. Looking back on the episodes I identify more with Bridget than Holly or Kendra, though I believe Kendra evolved the most in the past ten years or so. I highly recommend watching the show for some early 2000's nostalgia and give the show an 8/10.
