As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. However Today's blog is on Two Creepypastas; Slenderman and The Russian sleep experiment.

WHAT ARE CREEPYPASTAS?

Creepypastas are internet based horror-related legends that are shared around and is a catch all term for most horror content posted on the internet. Such entries are often a brief often user-generated, paranormal stories written with the intent to scare the reader. Often including such gruesome tales of suicide, murder and occurrences considered otherworldly, the subject of the Creepypasta widely varies and can often include the topics of twisted TV Shows and haunted Video Games, as well as the usual Ghosts, Zombies and murder. The length of a Creepypasta varies from a simple paragraph on a blog to a rather lengthy multi-part series that spans multiple media types from blogs to videos and even photographs. The three Creepypastas mentioned below are some of the well known Creepypastas to date.

SLENDERMAN

The Slenderman was created by Something Awful forum user Eric Knudson and was originated as a Creepypasta internet meme on June 10th 2009 as part of a Photoshop contest. He's often depicted as a thin, unnaturally tall humanoid with a featureless head and face and wearing a black suit.

The Creepypasta began with Eric Knudson under the pseudonym Victor Surge posting two black and white photographs of children with the Slenderman in the background, the submission was supplemented with snatches of text that were supposedly witnesses describing the abductions and the words written underneath the first picture were “We didn't want to go, we didn't want to kill them, but its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us at the same time...-1983, Photographer unknown, presumed dead. ”

The Second Quoted

One of two recovered photographs from the Stirling City Library blaze. Notable for being taken the day which fourteen children vanished and for what is referred to as “The Slenderman” Deformities cited as film defects by officials. Fire at Library occurred one week later, Actual Photograph confiscated as evidence – 1986, Photographer: Mary Thomas, missing since June 13th, 1986”

Such additions transformed the photos both effectively and successfully into a work of fiction, subsequent postings expanded the character and theology with each and every visual and textual contributions.

THE RUSSIAN SLEEP EXPEREMENT

The Russian Sleep Experiment is a Creepypasta was posted in the Creepypasta website on August 10th 2010 by a user named OrangeSoda (Real name unknown). The story spins the tale of 5 test subjects being exposed to an experiment stimulant drug that supposedly inhibits sleep in a Soviet-era scientific experiment, which has gone onto become the basis of an Urban Legend. The Russian sleep experiment is immensely popular ever since its original publication and is considered to be the greatest and most shared Creepypasta ever made and is often shared with image of a grotesque demonic figure which is implied t be one of the test subjects however is proven to be a life size Halloween animatronic prop called “Spasm”. Josh Millican of Dread Central called it “One of the most shocking and impactful urban legends of the internet age” There is both speculation and a shared belief that The Russian Sleep Experement could hold a trace of fact instead of being fully fiction, causing many articles in the media to attempt to debunk such a claim.
