Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on the Radio series Uncanny, created by Danny Robbins,
Uncanny started as a BBC4 Radio series created by Radio presenter Danny Robbins covering various explorations of the paranormal and supernatural phenomena, with its first broadcast in 2021. The Series is broadcast not only on BBC Radio 4 but as a podcast on both BBC Sounds and Spotify, It's theme tune is “Don't have nightmares” by Indie band Lanterns on the Lake. A TV series consisting of 3 episodes was broadcast on October 13th 2023.
Uncanny has four series, which covers Poltergeists and other ghosts, UFO/Alien sightings and Cryptids. The first three series covers stories form the British public whilst the fourth follows the stories from the American public. The episodes jump from the stories to discussions with experts who attempt to explain the experiences, with one expert taking the rational psychological/natural explanation side and the other taking the more paranormal side sharing parallels with other similar cases. The experts often include Caroline Watts, Chris French, Ciaran O'Keeffe and Evelyn Hollow.
A number of episodes were Specials and were recorded in front of a live audience, the guests for these episodes include Mark Gatiss, Laura Whitmore, Laurence Rickard and David Biddiel.
Uncanny has had a run of Live Stage shows which ran in the earlier part of 2024 with 31 mini episodes recorded for and released on the run up to Halloween 2024 with 3 normal length episodes specifically released for Halloween itself, called Halloween: Trilogy of Terror.
As a Lover of the Paranormal and unexplainable things, Uncanny scratches that love and provides some dopamine to my brain. I highly recommend both listening to the podcasts via BBC sounds or Spotify and watching the three TV episodes via BBC iplayer. Whilst I don't have a favourite episode, I give Uncanny as a whole an 8/10.
Uncanny will have a second TV series and another podcast series happening sometime in the next two years.
