Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on Carers Day.
Every day 12,000 people become unpaid carers, often caring for a friend, a partner of a family member either close or extended. Many don't see themselves as carers and are often unaware of the legal rights they have or the benefits and support their entitled to.
This year Carers Rights day for the UK is on Thursday 20th November and the theme for this year is 'Know your rights, use your rights',
Many carers miss out on the support they could have, support that's designed to help reduce stress and pressure of caring for others. Whether they care 24/7 or juggle care, work and family life, have cared for many years or are new to caring. Regardless of where they live in the UK, All Carers should not only deserve to understand their rights but be supported however they wish to use them.
Carers UK worked for the past sixty years to improve carers rights. They have been working hard to secure a future where all carers are properly recognised, valued and provided with the support needed to live life beyond just having their caring responsibilities.
Carers UK Goals are as follows:
Making Caring the 10th protected characteristic under the Equality Act.
Greater Recognition and support to help people identify as a carer.
Clear rights not to be discriminated against because of their caring responsibilities.
A fairer social security system which supports carers to live a life free from poverty.
Systematic recognition, involvement and support from the NHS.
Access to good good quality and affordable social care, including the ability to take breaks from caring once in a while.
A better workplace support, including a right to paid time off to care for a family member or friend.
Many Carers groups are linked in down below in the bibliography. Consider offering help or support for Carers groups.
