As you should know Tuesdays is book blog day were we talk about one particular book and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.
The Polar Express follows the story of a boy who – on Christmas Eve whilst staying awake to hear Santa's bells- ends up hearing a train which he boards and ends up going to the north pole to watch Santa set off with his sleigh.
The Polar Express was published on November 12th 1985 by Houghtin Muffin and is a fantasy children's picture book written and illustrated by American Author Chris Van Allsburg. The book is widely considered to be a classic Christmas story for young children which has been turned into a popular movie. It has been praised for its detailed illustrations and calm relaxing storyline. It won the annual Caldecott Medal for illustration in 1986,
The Polar Express was made into an animated movie in 2003 with a 2004 release. It was directed by Robert Zemeckis and has American actor Tom Hanks starring in several roles alongside fellow actors Daryl Sabara, Nona Gaye, Jimmy Bennett and Eddie Deezen.
Chris
Van Allsburg is an American writer and illustrator of Children's
books. He's won two Caldecott Medals for the US picture book
illustration for Jumanji (1981) and The Polar Express (1985) both of
which he also wrote. Both of which have been successfully adapted to
the screen. Van Allburg is also a Caldecott runner up in 1980 for The
Garden of Abdul Gasazi. Chris Van Allsburg was also a nominee for the
biennial international the highest international recognition for
creators of children's books. He received the honorary degree of
Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Michigan in April
2012.
