Hey there Earthlings, Alternatives and Trollers. Put down that mouse and lend an ear. Welcome to The Bandersnatch blog where we talk weird, wacky and wondrous. I'm The Bandersnatch and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Random blog day boo yah. As you should know Fridays is random blog day were we talk anything and everything and pretty much run with it. Today's blog is on The Booker Prize.
The Booker Prize, formerly the Booker Prize for Fiction(1969-2001) and The Man Booker Prize (2002-2019) is a literary award which occurs each year for the best single work of sustained fiction written in the English language and is published in the UK or Ireland. It's regarded as one of the prestigious literary awards and the winner receives a considerable cash sum as well as international publicity which often leads to a boost in sales. When the Prize was created, only Novels written by authors from the Commonwealth, Irish and South Africa were allowed to enter. In 2014 the Prize was opened up to any Novel published in the English Language. A change that's considered controversial.
The Books are often whittled down to a longlist, then a shortlist before the winner is decided by a Five person panel. Often made up by other Authors, Publishers and Journalists. Politicians, Actors, Artists and Musicians are also added to the panel on occasion. Gaby Wood an English Journalist, Author and Literary Critic has been the chef executive of the Booker Prize since 2015.
The international Booker Prize is the sister prize for The Booker Prize which is given every two years for the books written in English or has an English Translation. Short stories are eligible for the International booker Prize. In 2025 the Children's Booker Prize has been launched with the inaugural winner be announced in 2027.
David Szalay is the Booker Prize winner for 2025 with his book Flesh and Banu Mushtaq and Deepa Bhasthi are the winners for the International Booker Prize 2025 with their book Heart Lamp.
